Among Us Tops Nintendo’s Official Download Chart For December

Minecraft and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe round our the top three.

It goes without saying that the Nintendo Switch had a fantastic 2020. The hybrid console sold consistently throughout the year and was the top-selling console in the US for two years straight. Now, as we enter a new month, and new year, Nintendo has shared its top 15 downloads for the month of December and it’s one of this year’s breakout successes, Among Us, that takes the top spot.

The full chart is as follows:

1. Among Us
2. Minecraft
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
5. Super Mario Party
6. Super Mario 3D All-Stars
7. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Games
8. Immortals Fenyx Rising
9. Stardew Valley
10. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
11. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
12. Pokemon Sword
13. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
14. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
15. Super Mario Odyssey

There’s no surprise to see Among Us sitting pretty at the top of the Switch download charts during its month of release. The incredibly popular title topped the download charts within 24 hours, just days before it was reported to have had half a billion players in November alone.

Minecraft sits comfortably in second place and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in third, with both games likely to have been very popular with the crowds of players who got the Switch for Christmas. Super Mario Party’s high placement is also likely to be attributed to this as families look for games to play together on their new systems.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is the only other title that may come as a surprise, coming in at eighth place for the month. Ubisoft’s mythological open-world title bears some striking similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so may be just the game players need to scratch that itch until the sequel arrives.

The rest of the chart is littered with the titles you’d expect to see from Nintendo with Super Mario Odyssey, Pokemon Sword, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity all cracking the top 15.
