Angry Birds has launched its way across nearly every platform imaginable with its numerous (but hilariously fun) releases, but now it looks like the long-rumored Angry Birds movie will finally take flight.
Rovio Entertainment has announced that its upcoming adaptation of its popular mobile series will be fronted by two animation vets of many Disney and Sony productions of the past, with Clay Katis (Pocahontas, Wreck-It Ralph) and Fergal Reilly (Space Jam, Hotel Transylvania) as co-directors for the film, which will be Rovio’s first ever feature-film, and the directing debut for the team.
Rovio’s CEO Mikael Hed stated with the news:
“I’m very excited that Fergal and Clay have joined us, bring with them their vast expertise. They are two of the brightest rising talents in animation, and I’m confident we are building the right team to tell the story of Angry Birds and deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans.”
The Angry Birds film is currently scheduled to release in theaters on July 1, 2016 from Sony Pictures Entertainment…as long as those Bad Piggies don’t get in the way of things.
