During its latest Direct presentation, Nintendo introduced two mini-games available in today's free Animal Crossing: New Leaf update -- Desert Island Escape and Puzzle League.

Two specific items must be found in order to unlock the mini-games. The in-game Wii U console unlocks the former, while the latter is unlocked by finding a Nintendo 3DS XL or a New Nintendo 3DS, all of which can be obtained via fortune cookies at the Nooklings' shop, or by scanning any of the 16 Animal Crossing amiibo figures.

Nintendo also announced a new in-game currency called MEOW (Mutual Exchange of Wealth) Coupons, which can be spent in a new area called Harvey's Campground. Coupons are earned by completing daily or weekly Town Initiatives.

Others features, including the amiibo Camera mode, a new storage space accessed through the player's home, and the use of the 3DS touch screen to arrange furniture, have been added as well. Lastly, for those of you with save data from Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, you can link your file to New Leaf and unlock 20 giant furniture items to purchase.

The update is out now, but a packaged version of the game, titled Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, will hit retailers on December 2.
