Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trailer Features Relaxing Island Vibes

Get ready to embrace island life.

This new Animal Crossing: New Horizons trailer is called “Welcome to Island Life!” Though it claims to show off a “deserted island,” the island in the trailer is not, in fact, deserted. No matter where you go in life, Tom Nook will always be there for you.

The trailer points out that you’ll need a tent and a “NookPhone” to start your life on the island. The NookPhone (provided to you by Tom Nook, of course) serves as a kind of menu, and as such, it features a variety of important apps. For example, it contains a crafting recipe book, so you’ll look to your phone (your menu) to learn how to craft integral items. The trailer goes on to show how Animal Crossing: New Horizons includes a very Minecraft-esque gameplay loop: gather items, craft items with gathered items, gather new items by using crafted items, and so on.

The trailer also shows off another app on the phone: “Nook Miles.” With the “Nook Mileage Program,” you’ll be able to earn miles by completing activities on the island, and you’ll be able to spend these miles on special items and recipes. Cool.

Overall, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is shaping up to be one of the chillest games of all time. Like the trailer says, there are a host of ways to “experience the joys of life on a deserted island.” You can “go fishing, catch bugs, tend to flowers, and pick them to make a garden.” The island also features dynamic weather and seasonal changes–there’s a fish that can only be caught in the winter, for instance.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will release for the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
