If you are feeling a little under the weather today - then again, who hasn't been feeling a bit down in the dumps lately -  then we have the perfect video to show you to lighten up your mood. An 88-year-old grandma, Audie, who is a self-confessed Animal Crossing: New Leaf addict and has previously put in over 3,580 hours on her DS, finally got her hands on the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons in a wonderfully wholesome unboxing video.

If you thought gaming was for the young, then think again. We've seen the likes of Skyrim gaming grandma and Apex Legends Gaming Grandpa show the youngsters that gaming doesn't have to stop once you get older. Audie rose to fame last year when her grandson noticed how many hours his granny had put into Animal Crossing: New Leaf on her Nintendo DS when it suddenly needed repair. At the time, Audie had put in around 150 days worth of playtime into the game and that’s not surprising since she had fired it up for some “daily village chores, like hitting rocks, digging up fossils, etc” on a daily basis, but I'm fairly confident that figure has now probably doubled.

A little over a year later, Aubie is back and this time she is unboxing a brand new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Special Edition Switch for the first time that's even wrapped up in a special Animal Crossing wrapping paper. In the video made by phubans, Audrey firstly answered a few questions from fans and talked a little about the speculation that one of the Animal Crossing characters, a villager which is an orange wolf wearing sunglasses and short blonde hair and whose name is Audie, was named after her. But she replied that she "didn't know" for sure and it's unlikely that Nintendo will reveal if it's truly the case or not, but it's a lovely thought all the same.

What is extra special and wholesome about this video is that Audie's Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch Edition is a gift from her many fans around the world who clubbed together and started a GoFundMe last year. Grandma Audie was delighted with her new gift if not slightly confused about how to work it but with the help of her grandson, she finally got to customize her character and get set up on her new tropical island. She was very keen to let people know though that she would still be putting in the hours on her DS and not forgetting about Animal Crossing: New Leaf!

Animal Crossing launched on the Nintendo Switch on March 20 so if you still haven’t had the chance to jump in, don’t worry as you can pick up your copy right here.
