Gyroids are back with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update, but what do these eccentric little statues actually do?

From flattening out their islands to re-designing homes, Animal Crossing fans are busy getting their islands ready for the upcoming 2.0 update.

With this new update comes the return of gyroid statues, quirky clay figures that come in a variety of styles and colors. These figures are mostly for charm, giving players an opportunity to experiment with strange furniture items that house a lot of personalities.

But what do these gyroids actually do, and how can players use them? Here's our guide to gyroids below!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons: What do Gyroids Fragments Do?

Gyroids have been a part of nearly every Animal Crossing game, either as furniture or as an NPC. Both gyroids and gyroid fragments will be obtainable in New Horizons, with fragments able to be watered into full-size gyroids.

In the update, gyroids will mainly be furniture items. Players can display them as decorations placed on shelves or tables, and even customize their designs. These gyroids are great for adding personality to player homes, given their eclectic appearance.

Their biggest use, however, is their ability to create an interesting soundscape. Gyroids come in 39 different families, from squeezoids to howloids to buzzoids. These families all have their own unique sound, with individual gyroids playing them at different pitches and tempos.

The sounds are also accompanied by small movements so that they look like cute dancing statues. By placing different gyroids together, players can essentially make music through their furniture.

And, to make it even better, gyroids will sync up to any song playing from a music-playing item. This allows players to essentially customize the music they receive in the game, adding their own unique flavor to existing songs.

Players in past games have gotten really creative with their statues, even creating orchestras of gyroids to sing a beautiful composition. Hopefully, New Horizons players can take gyroids to the next level in the update!

All in all, play the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update starting November 5th, 2021. This will be the game's last major free update, so be sure to download it to complete the New Horizons experience!
