Animal Crossing Second Summer Update Details Island Backup and More

Animal Crossing: New Horizons second summer update has us dreaming of visiting friends.

July 28, 2020

During the first of two Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer update videos we were treated to a couple of new activities, including swimming and diving, plus a range of new DIY recipes before being teased with a second update. Now, the official Animal Crossing Twitter account has shared what’s in store as part of that second update, which is due to drop on July 30.

The first new feature that’s shown off is fireworks! Players of the game are promised a firework show every Sunday throughout the month of August, with the sneaky fox Redd hosting a raffle in front of the town hall. The raffle seems to show a range of purely cosmetic prizes that include bubbles and party horns. The video also promises players can design their own custom fireworks, which can be launched during the fireworks show.

Next up sees the return of the Dream Suite from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Hosted by Luna the Tapir, players can enter a psychedelic dream state and visit other players islands “all over the world.” This feature will require a Nintendo Online Subscription.

Finally, we received more details on a feature that we knew was coming from before the game launched, Island Backups. This feature comes to the relief of millions of players, all of whom were at risk of losing hundreds of hours of work should catastrophe strike. A follow-up tweet was sent out from the Animal Crossing account detailing:

The Island Backup & Restoration Service allows #NintendoSwitchOnline members to upload their game data online & recover data in the event of loss or damage. The ability to transfer #ACNH save data is planned for later this year.

The trailer then ended with a tease of another new update, with a smiley pumpkin, heading our way this Fall. Keep an eye out here as we’ll update you as soon as more information on the Fall content is available.
