Anime-based video games have been around even when video games were a new concept. Several popular anime shows like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece have received dozens of games. The genre of games inspired by anime varies, but the most popular ones tend to be fighting games.

Several popular anime series have yet to get fighting games based or have gone without games for over a decade. This list will highlight ten anime that deserves a new fighting game.

10 Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion is one of the most popular mecha anime, yet it hasn't received a major console game in over a decade. It has since received 2 new movies and continues to grow in popularity.

There are not many Eva units to create a large fighting game by themselves, but that's where the series' potential really shines. Turning all the Angels into fighters would be a great way to have a very diverse roster.

9 One Punch Man & Mob Psycho 100

One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 are two popular series created by One. They would both certainly sell well individually, but there are a few reasons why a crossover game would be for the better. Firstly, they would blend together very well due to their very similar art style.

More importantly, the roster would be much more memorable by pulling from both series. It could focus on all the important characters from both rather than resorting to minor villains to fill up the roster space.

8 Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon was one of the most popular anime in the 90s and has left a major impact on the magical girl genre. Sailor Moon did receive a Japan-only fighting game in the late 90s, but none worldwide. Gaming has evolved vastly since then, so it deserves a shot at a new installment that is released worldwide.

Unlike some other anime on this list, Sailor Moon hasn't even had the benefit of being in crossover fighting games. The amount of Sailor Moon content in recent video games is almost non-existent. A well-designed fighting game would be an excellent revival.

7 Inuyasha & Yashahime

Inuyasha has received a few arena fighting games, most notably on the PS2. The original series coming to an end made more games based on it seem less likely, but it recently received a sequel called Yashahime. This revival is the perfect chance for another game based on the series.

The original anime was already very long and capable of filling a roster by itself. Yashahime also has multiple beloved characters that fans would love to play as, and it would be a shame not to include them too.

6 Record Of Ragnarok

Record of Ragnarok season 2 release date confirmed

Record of Ragnarok is a fairly recent anime, but it's performed very well so far. Additionally, the Record of Ragnarok cast consists of some of the most well-known people in human history, as well as gods from various mythologies around the world. Their wide range of unique abilities would work excellently in the form of a fighting game.

The anime has shown enough contestants so far for a fairly small yet diverse game roster. Adding in Loki and others have shown fighting briefly on the sidelines and in flashbacks could flesh out the roster a bit more if need be. Alternatively, they could pull from the manga, which is currently a few fights ahead.

5 Berserk

Berserk is among the top best-selling manga series. It is highly praised for its really dark tone and brutal action. A Mortal Kombat-inspired fighting game would match its tone perfectly. Three games were made for the series already, but not all were released worldwide. These games are also extremely hard to come by, and none of them were fighting games.

Despite its popularity as a manga, the series has had a hard time stretching to other forms of media. Neither of the anime adaptations managed to cover more than half the story — one of them received a very mixed reception for its animation quality, and none of the past games took off. It deserves a fair shot at branching out from just a manga again.

4 Hunter X Hunter

Hunter X Hunter

Hunter X Hunter has received quite a few games, but in recent years, it's been limited to crossover games like Jump Force and mobile games. It's been a decade since the last console Hunter X Hunter game. Meruem being one of the most requested DLC characters for Jump Force, proves the demand for a standalone Hunter X Hunter fighting game exists.

Despite both anime adaptions ending and the manga being on a long hiatus, the series has not lost popularity. When Togashi created a Twitter account and tweeted that the series would receive a few extra chapters in 2022, the tweet received over a million likes in an hour. This was before it was even confirmed to be Togashi's real account. Fans desperately want more content, and a game would be just the thing to hold fans over for a while.

3 Yu Yu Hakusho

Togashi's first ultra-popular series was an inspiration for many late 1990s and early 2000s Shonen anime, including some of the others on this list. There was a fighting game based on Yu Yu Hakusho in 2004 that was released on the PS2, but it has yet to receive anything other than mobile games and crossovers since.

Even when it comes to those crossovers, the series often gets neglected for newer series. Jump Force only gave it 2 fighters at launch, while most other anime within the same tier of popularity received more. Yu Yu Hakusho's impact on the industry makes it deserve to be more than just a minor part of crossovers.

2 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist main theme

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood often gets voted as one of the best anime series of all time. It got a trilogy of games on PS2, as well as a few games on other platforms. Unfortunately, the series suffers the same problems others on this list do.

Multiple of the games have never been released outside of Japan; there have been no console games in recent years, and it has been reduced to just a series that appears in crossovers. Such a well-received anime deserves an equivalently good video game.

1 Bleach

The Big Three is a term referring to three anime that overwhelmed the anime industry in the early 2000s. Bleach may be the least popular of the three, but its success is massive. The anime went on a very long hiatus, and so too, has games based on it. For a long time, all fans outside of Japan had was the Brave Souls mobile game.

Bleach did appear in Jump Force, which was the series to receive the most DLC characters. The demand to play as Bleach characters in a fighting game is very large. The anime's return marks a perfect chance for the revival of games based on the series too.
