Several big anime announcements have been made over at AnimeJapan 2021, on March 27-28, held fully online due to the Covid-19 pandemic - we most notably heard of a brand new 10th anniversary project for Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, meaning the Super Peace Busters team, who's also behind Toradora, might be coming back with a season 2.

The official Japanese Twitter account for Anohana announced a brand new page was launched for the 10th anniversary project of the anime series. A new key visual was published as well, drawn by Anohana character designer and artist Masayoshi Tanaka.

What's the Anohana 10th anniversary project?

Fist off, an Anohana 10th anniversary event will be held on August 28, 2021 in Japan. This is when the big announcements, whatever they will be, will be shared. Until August, several new Anohana goods, merch, and collab events will also release in Japan.

For now, we don't know what the project in itself will be. The Twitter account and 10th anniversary page will reveal more details in the near future. However, we can make several predictions.

Anohana season 2 or movie sequel projects predictions

First off, it's important to note that Anohana ( Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai in Japanese) was an original anime project led by three personalities: director Tatsuyuki Nagai, writer and director Mari Okada, and character designer and artist Masayoshi Tanaka.

Together they form a creative group titled the Super Peace Busters, and worked on several anime besides Anohana, most notably Toradora, Her Blue Sky, and The Anthem of the Heart. Messages from all three are included on the 10th anniversary page.

It's definitely possible they're teaming up again for a new Anohana movie or TV series sequel.

The other important thing to note: the iconic Ending theme song of Anohana: Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ and its lyrics.

This is originally a 2001 song by Zone, a now inactive idol group. The ending theme song of Anohana was a cover of the song, by the anime's seiyuu.

The Anohana version of the song was titled Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ ten years after. And the lyrics included, as fans noted, a certain promise "we will be reunited in ten years". As such, many Anohana fans believe an Anohana season 2 TV anime or movie sequel will be announced in August 2021 at the 10th anniversary event.

Anohana was first aired in Japan from April 11, to June 23, 2011. The anime, like with all Super Peace Busters works, has a very peculiar atmosphere mixing comedy, tear jerking moments, melancholy, and what some could call exaggerated drama. As such, the series trigger various degrees of emotional responses among anime fans. While some consider them the saddest anime ever, others were left unfazed but still think they're really good shows. I'm personally part of the later category. With that said, I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more about this Anohana 10th anniversary project.
