Did Eren Kill His Mother?
Before Chapter 139 came out, Eren influencing the past and killing his mother was only a theory. However, now that the series is over we have official word on whether or not the theory was right:
Eren sacrificed his mother for a better future for the world.
This is all revealed in Chapter 139 during Eren and Armin’s final conversation. Eren reveals that he manipulated the Smiling Titan (Dina Yeager) to kill his own mother in order to save the life of Bertholdt. Bertholdt played an essential part in the outcome of the war against the titans and if he had died in Carla’s place, they wouldn’t have won.
Clearly, Eren didn’t want to have his mother killed, but he felt like there was no other option because of Bertholdt’s importance.
