Apex Legends is the next blockbuster video game to be headed to the tabletop, as developers Glass Cannon Unplugged and Genuine Entertainment have announced that the project's Kickstarter campaign will launch on May 17. The board game adaptation will be developed in collaboration with Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment.

No particular release date for Apex Legends: The Board Game has been announced yet. However, the developer team provided a breakdown of what to expect from the format, revealing that Apex Legends' 60-player battle royale will be condensed into a two to four-player-based tabletop game. Described as an intensely tactical miniatures game, Apex Legends: The Board Game brings the stakes of the original game with an innovative framework. It also makes more players available through expansions, which add new legends and tactics.

Players will modify tactics to overcome combat system challenges based on the limited weapons, ammo, and items in Apex Legends. They will build up strategic gameplay by spending finite resources. The game also offers replayability, allowing players to change the map by placing different terrain and buildings. Players will compose a squad of legends with game-changing abilities. "Our original game engine and innovative framework bring the stakes, thrills, and dynamics of the Apex Legends battle royale experience to life." Glass Cannon Unplugged said on the official website.

Apex Legends: The Board Game has players taking on the role of a legend to be the last one standing, with each game said to take around one hour. Players will outmaneuver opponents before they change their strategies. Players who have not played Apex Legends can also get used to the game's mechanics, as the developer studio described its method as easy to understand for newcomers. The starting roster of the upcoming board game features four legends - Gibraltar, Bloodhound, Wraith, and Bangalore. More legends will be made available through seasonal releases and expansions.

Last but not least, Glass Cannon Unplugged revealed that it is developing long-term plans for post-launch support and tournaments. Despite the game's four-player format, future expansions will increase the player count with new content. More information regarding the specifics of Apex Legends: The Board Game will be revealed after its Kickstarter campaign launches on May 17, 2023.
