Apple TV's Mythic Quest is Returning with a Quarantine Episode Next Week

Rob McElhenney's Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest is back with a new episode next week that was produced with the cast's iPhones from home.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to affect large sections of daily life, the film and television industries have especially been hit hard by the impacts of the outbreak. Several major films and TV series have had production delays or postponements, or have had to find some creative solutions around temporarily not being able to film. Several TV series, in response to the pandemic, have managed to get by with remotely-produced TV episodes, with the Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest releasing a new installment that was made entirely from home.

Series co-creator Rob McElhenney (of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame) revealed that a new episode of the series called Mythic Quest: Quarantine will release on Apple TV+ on May 22, 2020. As the name implies, the episode is set in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and features the show’s characters as they attempt trying to work from home. Naturally, hilarity ensues as they work through making video games remotely and navigate how to make Zoom calls.

The idea of a remotely-produced TV episode isn’t new to TV at this point, as several other TV series recently have played with the idea of doing Zoom call-style episodes, but Mythic Quest seems to be having some fun with it. Parks and Recreation gathered its cast together for the first time since the series ended in 2015 for a special episode made entirely remotely and to support charities helping those in need during the pandemic. NBC’s courtroom drama All Rise also created a remote episode on Zoom, while The Blacklist turned to a video game/graphic novel animation style to finish its partially-completed Season 7 finale.

For those that have yet to watch the series, Mythic Quest follows a cast of characters that work as developers on a major MMO at a video game development studio, with the series being produced by Apple and Ubisoft. The series’ first season was released in February 2020 to positive reception, and the show’s second season had begun production this spring before being halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is available to stream now on Apple TV+.
