Arc System Works announced today the acquisition of the Japanese video game developer WorkJam, best known for the Jake Hunter series and the horror adventure game Theresa.

The acquisition should excite fans of the detective visual novel series, though the only release seen by western gamers was 2009’s Jake Hunter: Memory of the Past for the Nintendo DS, the series is praised for its mystery gameplay and unique art style.

In addition, since today is Jake Hunter’s birthday (February 6), Arc System Works is announcing that development has begun on the newest chapter to end the game’s five year silence, Jake Hunter: Ghost of the Dusk.

Furthermore, the company is planning on releasing games from the series on smart phone devices beginning this Summer.
