DayZ fans have been left incredibly frustrated today (December 29) as the games official servers are down on all supported platforms, with very little communication from the developers themselves.

Many players are experiencing a sign-in error which states "an unexpected authentication error occurred". But what exactly does this mean? And is there anything you can do to fix the error? Here's everything we know about the current server outage.

Why Are DayZ Servers Down Today? (December 29)

As mentioned previously, DayZ players are receiving the following error when attempting to play:

"Warning (0x000400E1). An unexpected authentication error occurred, please restart the application".

Unfortunately, restarting the application will only greet you with the same error message. This is because the DayZ servers are officially down on December 29. The issue does appear to be appearing on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, whilst the only official announcement we've had so far comes from the Xbox Support Twitter account.

As seen in the tweet below, the Xbox Support team are aware of some users having issues with DayZ. It appears that Xbox is on the case and have provided a link to keep track of the server status of the game.

We will be updating this article as more details arise, so stay tuned.

When Will Servers Be Back Up?

Unfortunately, a timeframe for when the DayZ servers are set to return hasn't been announced. However, we do know that the issue has been spotted by Xbox, which means the issue is being worked on.

At the time of writing this article, the DayZ servers have been down for approximately 4 hours on December 29. We don't expect the downtime to last much longer, so we will be updating this article with any further developments once they arrive.
