To celebrate the series' upcoming 20th-anniversary film, about the origins of Ash and Pikachu for a new generation of fans, Nintendo has announced that they will be distributing six Pikachu, each one wearing the different caps Ash has worn throughout the anime series into Pokémon Sun and Moon, free of charge.

Starting September 19, the company will release a special code from the official Pokémon website, which will allow players to receive one Pikachu; each week, Pikachu will be wearing a different hat and will come with a slightly different move set that is similar to the attacks it used at that point during the show. Unfortunately, players will only be able to redeem the code for Pikachu once. Here's a rundown of the distribution schedule, a picture featuring all six versions of Pikachu, as well as which season and game that Pikachu is based on below, courtesy of The Pokémon Company:

  • September 19-25: Original hat
  • September 26-October 2: Hoenn hat (Ruby/Sapphire)
  • October 3-9: Sinnoh hat (Diamond/Pearl)
  • October 10-16: Unova hat (Black/White)
  • October 17-23: Kalos hat (X/Y)
  • October 24-30: Alola hat (Sun/Moon)
