Among the slew of announcements that included the long-awaited Skull & Bones, a surprise Rayman announcement, and even some new details on The Division Homeland, we also got to learn the future of Assassin's Creed and where players will be plying their deadly skills in the near future.

After years of players asking, begging, and praying, Ubisoft is finally taking the series to Japan - Feudal Japan, to be exact. At this stage, not much has been said about the game. All we really know is the setting; even the official title has yet to be decided as it was presented as 'Assassin's Creed: Codename Red' rather than the usual 'Assassin's Creed: One Word Subtitle.'

According to Marc-Alexis Côté, VP Brand Executive Producer at Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed: Codename Red is in development at Ubisoft Quebec, the same studio that brought us the expansive Assassin's Creed Odyssey. While the chap wasn't ready to spill all the beans, Côté did offer some assurance that the game would offer players a "very powerful shinobi fantasy" and that it's the next premium, flagship RPG in the series. There's no release date for Codename Red as of yet, but don't expect to see it until sometime after Mirage has had its time in the sun in 2023.

Keeping with the Asian setting, another new addition to the series was also announced. Assassin's Creed: Codename Jade is set in China and rather than being a big console/PC release, Codename Jade is being developed for mobile. Again, Côté was not too forthcoming with details about the game, though he did state that players would be able to create their own character, parkour along the Great Wall of China, and sneak (or fight) their way through bustling city streets, all with optimized touch screen controls. While the game is being developed for mobile, it will retain the open-world nature that fans have become accustomed to.

And finally, Assassin's Creed: Hexe. Côté was even less forthcoming with the third and final game announcement, though he did tease that there's more to the very brief trailer than meets the eye, saying that Assassin's Creed: Hexe is a "very different type of Assassin's Creed game" and that he can't wait for fans "to tear apart the trailer," suggesting there are some clues as to the game's nature. Given that the word 'Hexe' means 'witch' in German and the trailer looks awfully creepy and gothic, maybe this one will be taking players to Germany? It's all speculation at this point, but that's half the fun with these announcements, right?

Outside of the three 'Codename' games, it was also revealed that Ubisoft and Netflix have teamed up to bring original Ubisoft games to Netflix's subscription service, including a Netflix-exclusive Assassin's Creed game. Details? You know the drill: there are none, not yet, at least.

The partnership with Netflix doesn't end there, though, as Ubisoft Film and Television is working with the streaming giant to produce a live-action Assassin's Creed series. The show is still in very early development, so don't expect to be see it anytime soon. It may even tie-in with the Netflix-exclusive game that is being developed, which would be a first for the franchise.
