Today Assassin's Creed Odyssey Creative Director Jonathan Dumont took part in an AMA on Twitter and Reddit, providing a nice chunk of information while responding to questions from the fans.We learn that there will be a full-fledged quest log system, while specific systems will have their own progress tracking.

Physical copies of the game will have reversible covers, featuring either Alexios or Kassandra, respectively the male and female heroes.

A fully-dynamic weather system will be included.

A Canon story will be included in the related novel, featuring Kassandra.

Besides Leonidas' spear, there will be more Pieces of Eden featured in the story.

The game includes seven different biomes, with many subregions that feature a different look and feel.

If you like the challenge, you can get ready for more parkhour puzzles.

Dualogue choices in Mass Effect Ody... ahem, Assassin's Creed Odyssey will impact the ending and the outcome of other quests.

Recruited NPCs can be used in ground combat as well, and as distractions.

There are several ways to upgrade both your ship and your crew.

More info was provided on Reddit, albeit with less visual flair.

  • The player can pet and tame many different animals, but there are no cats.
  • The modern-day story is not optional, and narrative choices made by the players might result in more present-day content for those who want it.
  • There will be "many" different opportunities for romancing characters, and it's possible to opt out of them at any time.
  • Clothes stay on during romance scenes.
  • The game will have more content than Assassin's Creed Origins.
  • The overall map is bigger than Assassin's Creed Origins', but half of it is sea.
  • In most cases, gear is not randomly placed and follows objectives that the players can set for themselves. Completing a full gear set grants a set bonus.
  • You can unlock the abilities that suit your playstyle, from epic and over the top to down-to-earth assassin.
  • There won't be unlockable parachutes.
  • You can't customize the look of your characters, but you can mix and match equipment to achieve a different look. There won't be dyes, but the hoot will automatically match the color of the chest piece.
  • The player can ride a horse named Phobos.

An interesting answer is on what makes Odyssey an Assassin's Creed game.

"Great question. We are absolutely an AC game. AC games are about experiencing a key moment in history, a place and time that were host to major historical events. In AC Odyssey players will visit Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, meeting historical characters like Socrates and Hippocrates. With our new dialogue system, players will be able to truly interact with history, which is something we’re really excited about. So get ready to debate with Socrates!

From a lore perspective, we wanted to tell the story of how First Civ artifacts created what would become the Templars vs Assassins story, which took place long before the Brotherhood.

Also, AC Odyssey is a continuation of the modern day story from Layla, so players will pick-up right after Origins."

Dumont also explained the role naval combat will play in the game:

"Ships and naval have a strong place in our game, but they're less the core element of the experience than in Black Flag. Gameplay is also different from BF as we have a more accessible and arcade approach, focusing on the immediate fun. We are true to the era, so no cannon but we have arrows, javelins and more emphasis on cleaving and ramming.  Nothing better than cleave a ship in half to see her crew devoured by sharks! But of course there is also a progression and recruitable crew for players that want to go deeper."

If you want to see more about the game, you can also check out plenty of footage of the game from E3 2018, alongside a trailer, and grab yourself a dedicated PS4 theme.

The game will come for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 5th, with two days of early access if you purchased one of the special editions.

Incidentally, the game is already available for pre-order on Amazon.
