Two years after Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the franchise received its brand new entry last week. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a brand new adventure in the series following the life of a Viking after moving into Britain in search of a new home. The game has had a great launch week in terms of sales, according to the UK sales chart.

In a week that Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War launched on five different platforms, it was Assassin's Creed Valhalla that managed to stand at the top of the physical sales table in the UK. For the first time in the last 13 years, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War couldn't stand at top of the UK sales chart in its launch week, and it seems to be a great financial achievement for Ubisoft and Valhalla.

Of course, the unstable situation of the physical market due to the COVID-19 pandemic has surely affected the financial performance of all the games launched since earlier this year, but it can't be a good reason for justifying Black Ops Cold War's lower sales compared to Valhalla as the situation for both of them were the same. That said, we can't ignore the fact that Cold War launched three days later than Valhalla, which means it had three days less than the new Assassin's Creed to add up to its launch week sale statistics.

Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales, another new launch of the last week, managed to stand in the third position and send FIFA 21 down to fourth place. The original Spider-Man was surely a big hit for PS4, but the new standalone expansion has sold 56% lower than the original edition, despite the fact that it was launched on PS4 and PS5 at the same time. And again, you can't ignore the negative impact of COVID-19 on the statistics.

Demon's Souls Remake, another PS5 launch title, stood at sixth place, under Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Sony's critically acclaimed PS5-exclusive managed to beat Watch Dogs Legion, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft Switch Edition, and Super Mario 3D All-Stars in the physical sales of the last week.
