Microïds and OSome first revealed their plans to remaster 2006 PC and PS2 game Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum as well as continue the series with Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 back in July. While details are still scarce on the upcoming third entry in the series based on a French comic book, more information about the hefty improvements to Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 was released today.

Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 North American release date has been confirmed to be the same as Europe's: November 29. On that date, the game will be available across Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One only digitally, though a physical release for the remaster is in the pipeline. As for specific improvements, they are widespread across graphics, gameplay, collectibles, and new challenges.

All characters and enemies have received new models, while environments have seen improvements to both textures and lighting. Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 will also now feature difficulty levels, two new combat skills called the Cosmic Strike and Pantry, and a reworked store system that will let players upgrade the titular characters via a skill tree. One of these upgrades will let players increase their health, which couldn't be done in the original.

The Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 remaster also features Challenges, which are brand new. These are 12 combat-focused bonus missions which players must fight waves of Romans in an attempt to reach Gold Rank. New postcards and figurines have been added as collectibles, and a fast travel system has been implemented.
