Atlus Reaffirms Persona 5 Royal is a PS4 Exclusive, Details How to Import DLC Bought on Original Persona 5

New details on the save bonus were revealed as well: players with a save from the PS3 version of Persona 5 can get it too.

June 7, 2019

Atlus updated Persona 5 Royal‘s Japanese site with new screenshots and published a new FAQ answering some questions.

The FAQ reaffirms that saves and trophies from the original Persona 5 can’t be transferred over to Persona 5 Royal. However, those with a PS4 save of the original Persona 5 will receive certain bonuses  “useful for the beginning of Persona 5 Royal“.

Atlus also announced that players who play Persona 5 Royal with the same PSN account they used to play Persona 5 on PS3 with, will get the bonus as well. For that, you need to upload your PS3 Persona 5 save to the cloud, using the in-game cloud save slot. As someone who played the Japanese version of Persona 5 on PS3, I was worried about that, so this is great to hear.

Next, Atlus also reaffirmed that Persona 5 Royal is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and how there are “currently no plans to bring the game to other platforms.”

Lastly, the FAQ touches upon DLCs bought for the original Persona 5., such as costumes. These will be usable in Persona 5 Royal as well. However, players will need to repurchase each pack of DLCs for 10 yen each, which is next to nothing. Citing “commercial issues”, Atlus couldn’t make it completely free.

The FAQ also states obvious mundane things for Japanese games, like how Persona 5 Royal will get a digital version, sample illustrations for the limited edition are coming soon, and how shop-specific pre-order bonuses will be revealed soon.

Persona 5 Royal launches on October 31 in Japan, and in 2020 in the west. You can catch the latest, translated trailer with new character Kasumi Yoshizawa.
