Attack on Titan Ending Explained
Well, we’ve made it to the end of the journey over ten years in the making. As the final chapter isn’t officially out yet, these leaks might not be 100% accurate. Here’s what happened in Attack on Titan chapter 139:
Chapter 139, titled “Yeager,” opens with Armin asking Eren about why things needed to come to all this. Eren explains that the choices he made were essential for saving the world, but were at his own expense which causes Armin to shout at him because of all he put Mikasa through. Eren regrets how it has to end between the two of them but explains that he’ll always be loyal to Mikasa even after he’s dead. After Armin and Eren say goodbye, Armin thanks Eren for being the bad guy so that no one else had to.
After waking up, Armin finds Mikasa holding Eren’s decapitated head and he cries. He explains that after their fight, all the titan have returned back to regular people. Captain Levi sees Erwin and Hange exiting the hot steam while Connie and Jean find Sasha.
We skip ahead several years to Historia holding her child. We discover that the war with Eldia still rages on because only the titans disappeared after Eren’s death, not the actual war itself. Many characters have left Eldia, but Historia still feels the hope to fight and win. Levi is still in Eldia being pushed in a wheelchair by now grown-up Falco and Gabi.
The final chapter ends with Mikasa being pecked at by birds under a tree next to a grave.
What’s next for AOT?
While this is clearly the ending to the Attack on Titan manga, the final season of the anime is still over a year away. Additionally, the Bessatsu Shonen Magazine Editorial Department released a statement thanking fans and commenting on the series as a whole.
