Avowed Is a Brand New Fantasy RPG From Obsidian

Obsidian's busy Xbox Games Showcase culminated in the reveal of a new first-person RPG called Avowed.

Obsidian had an extremely busy Xbox Games Showcase today. They revealed information on some new DLC for Outer Worlds, titled Peril on Gorgon, that was rumoured recently, shared some more information about the “smallest game of the year” Grounded and finally revealed a brand new “Expansive first-person RPG” called Avowed.

The World Premiere trailer showed off some stunning footage of the game that was described as being “built from the ground up” for the Xbox Series X. Matt Booty, head of Xbox Games Studios, said that Obsidian stated that when the company was purchased by Xbox that “this was the game they [Obsidian] wanted to make.”

Nearly half of the trailer follows the perspective of a flaming arrow, shot from a castle, as it gives glimpses of the stunning world you will be traversing. It flys past a giant statue high in the clouds, before starting its descent through a living skeleton soldier and dropping into a massive ravine.

We are then treated to some footage, reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, with a first-person view of a character holding a glowing sword in one hand, while his other hand is brimming with magic. The screen is seen shaking and a giant roar is heard in the background implying that as well as the existence of walking skeletons, there are some much larger foes in play.

While no release date has been confirmed yet, like all games revealed at today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Avowed will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it comes out. It will be released on both the Xbox Series X and Windows PC and comes baring the Optimised for Series X logo.
