Ay Carumba! PlayStation Plus Members Get the Simpsons Arcade Game Free Next Month

If you have fond memories of feeding quarters into a Simpsons Arcade Game cabinet on the boardwalk as a youngster, you may have uttered an “annoyed grunt” upon downloading the Xbox LIVE Arcade game based on America’s favorite overbite-sporting family only to find it was something completely different. Well, fear not: The PlayStation Network will have the real deal in a week.

That’s right, a hi-def port of the 1991 Simpsons Arcade Game is coming, but there’s just one catch: As far as we know it’s only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. The game is one of next month’s free downloads for the service, which gives early access and special discounts to its members along with a set of free games every few weeks. It’s the first time the 1991 classic will be available on a home console since its Commodore 64 port.

The service will also receive the Final Fantasy V PlayStation port, Inferno Pool and early access to the House of the Dead III demo. The only way to get in on the service if you don’t already subscribe is to shell out $49.99 for a one-year subscription or $17.99 for a three-month package. If you want to guarantee your copy of The Simpsons Arcade Game, those are the only ways we know for sure will work, but it’s unlikely the PlayStation Store won’t feature a version of the game for non-subscribers in the future.

You’ll just have to wait a while longer to wield Marge Simpson’s vacuum cleaner of doom, that’s all.
