BadLand Games Announces Metroidvania Action-Adventure Game Nightmare Boy

January 24, 2017

Today, developer The Vanir Project — a two-man team — and publisher BadLand Games announced Nightmare Boy, a metroidvania action/platformer game with serious Tim Burton vibes, for the PC.

Taking to Steam Greenlight in search for community support, Nightmare Boy takes place in a diverse world full of enemies from your worst nightmares. Your quest? To save the Nightmare World from a self-proclaimed ruler. On your way you will meet many unique and weird friends and foes, and will have to tread carefully when talking or interacting with the many NPCs, as quirky characters and their reactions can have game-changing consequences. Fast reflexes and a taste for exploration will be key as collect rare items, vanquish enemies, and eventually face your deepest fears.

The following story overview of the game is provided:

This story takes place in Donorok, in the state of Noctum. After the King of Noctum, Aster, disappears, chaos rules over the world. The relationships between Monsters, Mongos and Dreamers are completely unstable, and Donorok – the land so heavily effected by the chaos – slowly absorbs terrain from the surrounding regions.

Balder has taken over and has ordered the monsters to retain any child who falls into the Nightmare. The key to continuing his rule is with the Nightmare Boy, Billy..

Currently in development only for PC, Nightmare Boy is scheduled to release sometime in Q3 2017. Below, you can watch the game’s announcement trailer:
