Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Not Launch on the Epic Games Store Right Away, Steam and GOG Coming First
Don't expect to see Baldur's Gate 3 on the Epic Games Store when it first launches on PC.
Larian Studios officially announced Baldur’s Gate 3 just mere minutes ago during Google’s Stadia Connect stream. While the long-awaited third entry in the series will be coming to Stadia when it arrives, it will also be landing on PC as well. Luckily, for those looking to play on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 also won’t be exclusive to any single storefront, either.
As confirmed by US Gamer, Larian Studios plans on bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to a variety of different PC marketplaces, most notably, that of Steam and GOG when the game launches. While the Epic Games Store has been grabbing a variety of exclusives as of late, Larian Studios doesn’t even plan to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Epic’s platform upon release.
“You will see Steam pages pop up, you will see GOG pages pop up, but no Epic pages will pop up,” Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios told US Gamer. “I don’t see why not; I don’t believe in exclusives, I prefer to be everywhere.”
Vincke continued on further talking about his desire to get the game everywhere in time saying, “Everything we’ve done in the past has been about adapting to the divide that you’re playing on, because the device shouldn’t matter when it comes to playing our games. That’s the only way they’re going to spread, so I really don’t want to locked down to one platform or another.”
So while it sounds like Vincke would like to bring the game to not only every PC storefront and perhaps even consoles, it will likely be quite awhile until that happens. As of now, all we know is that Baldur’s Gate 3 will potentially launch in 2020 on Stadia and PC via GOG and Steam. We’ll share more information with you later if we learn of it.
