Earlier today, we ran a story on Larian Studios and how the developer seemed to be teasing either a third Divinity: Original Sin game or a third mainline Divinity game on its website. Well, turns out it isn't either of these two options and is instead something else entirely.

In a thorough new Twitter thread from user @kunkken, it seems that metadata hidden within the MP4 video of the numeral "III" on Larian's website has confirmed that the third game installment being teased here is actually that of Baldur's Gate 3. Yes, you read that correctly.

When downloading the video of the number 3 from Larian's site and running it through a text editor, you'll find that the words "Baldur's Gate Logo" appear within the code of the video. I performed this entire process myself just to make sure it was legitimate and it absolutely checks out. You can find the full Twitter thread detailing this information at the bottom of the page as well as my own screenshot from when I tried the process for myself.

For those unaware of Baldur's Gate, it's an RPG series from the 90s that has been incredibly influential to properties like Divinity: Original Sin. Outside of a few remasters over the past few years, a proper mainline Baldur's Gate entry hasn't appeared since 2001 when Baldur's Gate 2's final expansion released. For it to potentially be making a return here with a proper third entry is equal parts surprising and exciting.

If Larian Studios is indeed working on Baldur's Gate 3, we'll likely see more of it in a couple of days at E3 2019. Still, I cannot believe this is actually real and is probably happening. Crazy, crazy gaming times we're living in, folks.
