Fans of the many franchises of Blizzard Entertainment have long been used to the name "Battle.net" as their destination for accessing and playing the company's numerous titles, though as of today the Battle.net name is being retired in mind for something simpler.

Blizzard Entertainment's long-running Battle.net, the desktop app that players use to access and play Blizzard's titles, is now officially the Blizzard App, with all branding and mention of it now removed and effective starting today.

The studio had mentioned back in September that it would be "transitioning away" from the name as a way to avoid confusion between the two as separate entities, with the new initiative marking a way to unite Blizzard as a brand with its games and franchises.

Other than the name change, however, it appears the Blizzard app will (largely) remain unchanged and operate much in the same way - RIP though, Battle.net. It's been a good run.
