Battle Princess Madelyn’s developer Causal Bit Games Inc has released a brand new video which teases the gameplay for the first chapter of the retro-themed side-scroller. The title smashed the Kickstarter funding last year in April by raising $212,665 CA with 3,402 backers.

The video begins with a very quick glimpse at the title screen showing a story mode, arcade mode, and a debug menu. The story then introduces us to modern-day Madelyn being read a bedtime story telling the tale of Madlyn and her dog Fritzy who battle against an evil wizard.

Fritzy dies while trying to protect Madelyn but is then brought back as a ghostly entity and the two head off to stop the wizard.

The gameplay eventually begins and shows off classic side-scroller themes throughout, such as rapid combat and interactive characters. Casual Bit Games Inc have stated that Battle Princess Madelyn is said to be set in the vein of Ghouls N’ Ghosts, and Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon’s Trap.

Players are also able to assign their own difficulty settings easily allowing for a more arduous adventure or a more casual approach. The gameplay teaser ends with a look at the first boss of the game. The official Kickstarter update that released today detailed Warp Stones, allowing Madelyn to travel to unlocked locations.

They also discuss Level 5b, the second underwater level that features puzzle solving with raising and lowering water levels. The developer also mentions a charming moment in which his daughter —whom the game is inspired by— helped design up a haunting tree enemy.

The other news discussed is in relation to Casual Bit Games Ltd teaming up with Hound Picked Games, a subsidiary of PR Hound. They helped the developer throughout the Kickstarter campaign. We saw some new screenshots for Battle Princess Madelyn back in December 2017, and we’ve been shown another four which can be viewed below along with the gameplay teaser.

Battle Princess Madelyn will be available on PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, and PC.
