Back at PAX West, Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford teased without much subtlety that a new Borderlands is in the works, and today we get another piece of the puzzle.

In a forum post in which he announced the last content update for Battleborn, Creative Director Randy Varnell mentioned that he is going to play a "significant role" in the "highly anticipated" new game.

While he did not confirm that the new game is Borderlands 3, there isn't much subtlety in the overarching message.

We also don't know which specific role Varnell will cover, but he isn't the first high profile Battleborn designer to move onto the next Borderlands. Back in 2016 we heard that Art Director Scott Kester is reprising the same role on the new game as well.

This isn't excessively surprising, considering that Pitchford teased at PAX West that 90% of the studio's workforce is hard at work on the upcoming title. With content updates for Battleborn coming to an end, that percentage is likely to increase further.

Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer to hear something more specific about Borderlands 3 (or whatever Gearbox decides to call the new game), but all we can do for now is waiting.
