On January 31, publisher 2K announced that Gearbox Software's Battleborn is now no longer going to be playable at after the studios have finally shut down the servers. This has been the plan for a little over a year. The game launched back in 2016 and was a free-to-play first-person shooter, and in 2019, it was announced that the game was to begin a gradual shutdown process, as you can see in the tweets from 2019 below.

The update on the status of the game came from a FAQ on the 2K Support site that was originally created last year and was updated yesterday. The game has been unavailable on digital storefronts, and since February 24, 2020, players have been unable to purchase in-game currency. Now Battleborn's servers have been fully deactivated, the game is no longer playable.

It's detailed that Battleborn will be unplayable in any way, meaning that it won't be available to play online, through peer-to-peer, and even through a single-player campaign. In a tweet from the official account, it informed the community of the server status, and added, "We’re extremely proud of the work that went into the game and want to extend our deep appreciation to the community."

Back in 2016, according to Take-Two Interactive Software Chief Executive Officer Strauss Zelnick, Battleborn was said to be "a disappointment". The game was available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and saw support to bring the game to PS4 Pro and support 4K resolutions. Sadly, the game didn't get the reception is needed and as such has fallen to the depths of games that have had to be abandoned.
