Battlefield 1 Creative Director Talks Horses, Trains, and Elite Classes
During EA’s Gamescom 2016 Livestream, Battlefield 1 creative director Lars Gustavsson talked about some of the new elements coming to the upcoming first-person-shooter and available in the upcoming beta on August 31 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Gustavsson details the horses available in the game as a “fast and fragile” way to get around the map. After choosing the horse class, players will be deployed as cavalry where they can charge and trample the opposing team. Also introduced was the armored train which was described as a new behemoth in the game. The train will be used to tilt the balance of the battle in favor of the losing team.
Additionally, the “Elite Classes” were described as pick-ups found on the map that transform players into specialty characters who have many strengths, but noticeable weaknesses. Such as, the Flame Trooper is only effective in close range, but comes equipped with a gas mask. However, the Sentry is covered in armor, but can be taken out with gas due to his lack of the mask.
