Update: Upon double-checking the tweet that shared these images we found out that they all belong to a fan-made map by the community rather than an official upcoming map. We apologize for the false initial report.

The original story: Battlefield 2042 Season 3 is supposed to be launched in December 2022 with an official announcement coming later this month. However, before the official trailer comes out, the images for the game's new map have been leaked online recently, showcasing its name and scale.

The new map will be called Eruption, and as the name implies, it will actually contain the eruption of a volcano during the battle between two sides. As the leaker reveals, the players will first spot dense smoke coming out of the volcano, which will limit the vision of players in the two middle capture sectors of the map, once the time has come, the volcano will eject lava. This will cause a shock wave, which will knock back both infantry and vehicles based on how close they are to the volcano. It remains unknown what happens to the middle sectors and how you will be affected if you touch the lava or try to drive over it.

According to the leaker, the map is set in Italy, centered around a Russian chemical facility that has been located in the middle of the map just in front of the volcano. The armies will attack to capture sectors from each side of the volcano, which makes it a pretty equal and balanced map. So, you can probably expect the biggest battles to take place in the facility, where the environmental effect is intense.

The new season of Battlefield 2042 will also introduce a new Specialist to the game. During the mid-season updates, DICE will deliver the reworked versions of Manifest and Breakaway maps, as well as an update to the Specialists, which will categorize them in classes, similar to previous Battlefield titles. Although DICE is pretty late to bring back the class-based system over a year after the game's launch, but this might be a successful move to bring back more players to the game, as most fans of the series are now either playing Battlefield 1 or Battlefield 5.

DICE recently revealed that it has plans for Season 4 and Year 2 content for Battlefield 2042 as well, indicating that they are not done with this entry.
