As I said in my review for Battlefield 5 a few months back, DICE's newest shooter has the potential to be great, but it was in desperate need of some new, refreshing content. Luckily, a new content drop is exactly what the game is about to get, starting tomorrow.

The second chapter of the Tides of War called Lightning Strikes begins rolling out in Battlefield 5 tomorrow, January 15, with a new game mode called Squad Conquest. Much like the standard Conquest mode, this iteration is much tighter and is a smalled 16v16 mode. Along with this mode, four new weapons will also release tomorrow, with one new gun being available for each class.

These weapons are the following:

  • Zk-383 SMG (Medic class)

  • Modele 1944 semi-automatic rifle (Assault class)

  • M1922 MMG (Support class)

  • Mk. III bolt-action rifle (Recon class)

However, this isn't all that Lightning Strikes will include and tomorrow is only the start of the new content. Along with changes to Time to Death following player feedback, DICE is gearing up to launch a new Grand Operation, called Battle of Hannut, on February 21. This Grand Op will also include Rush mode for the first time ever. A new co-op endeavor called Combined Arms is also set to arrive in February and will include 8 missions. Plus, Rush mode will again be making a formal return come March.

Hopefully, these new additions can breathe some life into Battlefield 5, which it so desperately needs right now. Lightning Strikes will pave the way for the game's next major slate of new content which should most notably feature the battle royale mode Firestorm, which is slated to launch in March.

Lastly, you can find a new trailer below showcasing more of what you can expect from Battlefield 5 and Lightning Strikes over the coming weeks. Battlefield 5 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
