Amidst rumors of a new Nintendo Direct that could be coming about in the near future, it seems as though developer PlatinumGames could be gearing up to reveal more on the highly-anticipated action title Bayonetta 3.

In a message given to Inside Games talking about the year ahead, Platinum's studio head Atsushi Inaba said that fans "can expect to see more soon" of Bayonetta 3. Furthermore, PlatinumGames president Kenichi Sato also went on to say that the studio will multiple big announcements to make early in 2020. With both of these messages taken together, it's safe to assume that Bayonetta 3 should be making a rather large reemergence in the near future.

For those unaware, Bayonetta 3 was originally announced all the way back at The Game Awards 2017 via a teaser trailer. Since that time, however, additional information and footage on the title has largely been absent. Platinum has openly talked about the game's development in the past, previously stating that the game underwent a design change at one point. This is most likely why we haven't seen anything substantial on the project over the years.

It stands to reason that Bayonetta 3 could also end up launching in 2020, assuming it is far enough along in development. As of now, Nintendo's 2020 slate is rather sparse outside of titles like Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is also a big reason why many believe that a new Nintendo Direct could be coming soon. Nintendo essentially needs to reveal what it has planned for the year ahead, which it hasn't really done at this point.

If a new Nintendo Direct is revealed to be happening soon, it stands to reason that Bayonetta 3 might finally make an appearance during the showing. In the meantime, the original Bayonetta is set to be coming to modern platforms next month in a new remastered package for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
