It seems like developer Glovebox Games is jumping straight into a hipster's fever dream with their kickstarter for Beard Blade. This retro platformer sees you take on the 'mane' character of Branson, a farmer who stands up to a gang of invading imps. Our hero is thrown into the dungeon where he meets a magical barber who enchants the man's beard in a bid to free the land of this new menace.

Branson is able to shape his scruff into different objects in order to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. An in-game barber lets the humble farmer select between different styles such as a rock-beard to crush foes and a small heli-beard to float over small distances.

Gameplay will feature small role-playing elements such as NPCs and side quests and even the timed attack/jump mechanic found in Super Mario RPG. And while retro titles like this are a dime a dozen these days, the Wario Land inspiration, poppy chiptunes, and interesting backer rewards (old school SNES manual for the win) makes this campaign stand out.

Glovebox Games is hoping to raise $95,000 USD by October 30th. You can pledge on the main page if you'd like and have a full beard ready (real or fake) just in time for Halloween.
