As it happens, a lot of the best Warhammer 3 mods can be found on the list down below.

15 Better Camera Mod

Kislev infantry bracing for combat

This first one is a classic. Better Camera Mod has been around for ages and was one of the first mods to be ported over to Warhammer 3 from its predecessor. Just as its name suggests, the mod makes the in-game camera better, specifically during battles. With this mod installed, you’ll be able to zoom in and zoom out much farther than before, as well as take better screenshots.

Better Camera Mod comes with a couple of neat features that are indispensable to players who love making battle montages or taking epic screenshots. You can turn off the UI by simply pressing “K” while pressing “Alt +K,” which will turn on the cinematic view. There’s also a command that lets you zoom in as much as you want without having to worry about disappearing units. Better Camera Mod is extremely lightweight and should be compatible with absolutely everything.

14 Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords

Accepting Golden Order refugees after the faction was destroyed

Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords is a fantastic mod that changes Warhammer 3 in a major way. Normally, when AI-controlled factions get destroyed, their Legendary Lords go with them, and there’s no way to bring them back. Well, now there is because this mod gives you the option to have the Legendary Lords join your faction. However, this only works with characters pertaining to the same race. For instance, you can’t recruit Settra as Karl Franz, but you can recruit other Empire lords like Balthasar or Volkmar.

The catch is that if you refuse to let defeated Legendary Lords join your faction, they will offer to join AI-controlled factions instead. In spite of its name, the mod also lets you recruit leaders of minor factions, even if they’re not technically Legendary Lords. Defeated Legendary Heroes will be available for recruitment as well. Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords can drastically change the game’s balance, so just keep that in mind before you install this mod.

13 Legendary Characters

Best Immortal Empires Mods - Legendary Characters

The developers put in a lot of work into creating dozens upon dozens of Legendary Lords, but they definitely skimped out on the Legendary Heroes. Aside from Lord Kroak, the ironic duo comprised of Gotrek and Felix, the Green Knight, and maybe Krell, most of the other Legendary Heroes in Immortal Empires are not very interesting, which is why this mod is a must-have.

Legendary Characters adds close to 40 new heroes to the game, scattered across a variety of factions. These aren’t just mere reskins, mind you, as every Legendary Hero comes with a unique appearance and battle card. Granted, some of the models do look very similar to the vanilla characters they were based on, but there is still enough variety here to keep things interesting. Besides, these new Legendary Heroes also come with special skills and abilities, so it’s not all about the looks.

12 Building Progression Icons III

New icons for building chains

Building Progression Icons III makes small but nevertheless noticeable changes to building chain icons. Most buildings now have unique icons that reflect their tier within the chain. The mod introduces new artwork that becomes increasingly more elaborate with every new building you construct. The icons are mostly derived from original assets, but there are a few pieces of original artwork included as well.

Building Progression Icons III is a purely cosmetic mod that doesn’t affect gameplay. A lot of building chains have already been updated, but there are still a few that only have vanilla icons. This mod is a work in progress, so expect the remaining icons to be gradually updated over time.

11 Unique Faction Currencies

Best Immortal Empires Mods - Unique Faction Currencies

Unique Faction Currencies is another mod that makes small but noticeable changes to the game. By default, almost every race in Warhammer 3 uses gold as its currency, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense lore-wise. Why would the Wood Elves or the Greenskins care about gold? Thanks to this mod, they don’t, and now most races have their unique forms of currency, similar to the Vampire Counts.

It’s important to note that Unique Faction Currencies don’t make any actual changes to the game’s economy. Instead, it simply changes currency and reward chest icons to something more appropriate and lore-friendly. Instead of gold, the Skaven now uses Warpstone Tokes as currency, while the Tomb Kings use Souls. Unique Faction Currencies currently add a dozen new forms of currencies, with even more to come sometime in the near future.

10 Reloading Animations

Kislev gunners reloading their weapons

Creative Assembly put a lot of time and effort into making Warhammer 3’s units as detailed as possible, but the developers still have a lot of work to do when it comes to the animations. For instance, a lot of ranged units stand around doing nothing in-between volleys because they don’t have to reload animations. Luckily, you can easily fix that by installing Reloading Animations. The mod does exactly what it says on the tin and gives a bunch of ranged units much-needed reloading animations.

The mod isn’t complete just yet, but it already adds new animations to a bunch of units, including Kislev Streltsi, Free Company Militia, Empire Handgunners, Dwarf Thunderers, and more. Expect additional animations will be added over time. It’s worth noting that the new animations don’t have a negative impact on the balance since they don't affect the firing speed of units.

9 Custom Matched Combat Animations

Best Immortal Empires Mods - Custom Matched Combat Animations

This is an incredible mod for anyone who loves playing Immortal Empires battles in slow motion in order to admire the game’s detailed combat animations and sync kills. Even though the game already offers a lot of amazing animations, there’s certainly room for even more of them, and that’s exactly what you’re getting when installing this mod.

Custom Matches Combat Animations adds custom animations, and sync kills to everything ranging from rank-and-file infantry units like Greatswords and Spearmen to Legendary Lords, heroes, and more. Most of the animations are short and sweet so as not to disrupt the flow of combat. According to the mod authors, matched combat animations are limited to 100 in Warhammer 3, hence why some of the vanilla animations had to be removed to make room for new ones.

8 Details Matter: Collection

Best Immortal Empires Mods - Details Matter: Collection

Details Matter: Collection is a compilation of smaller mods designed to make Total War: Warhammer 3 even more detailed than it already was. All the mods included in this collection can be downloaded individually, but there’s no reason not to grab all of them at once since they’re very small and don’t conflict with each other or most other mods.

The main focus of this mod series is to add quivers, ammo pouches, and other types of containers and holsters for ranged units that don’t have them by default. Most ranged units in Immortal Empires pull arrows, bolts, and other projectiles from thin air before firing them, and while this design oversight is easy to miss in the thick of battle, it’s definitely noticeable once you zoom in. Details Matter: Collection fixes that and is routinely being updated to include more and more units.

7 Immortal Landmarks

New landmarks in Altdorf

Landmarks are unique buildings that provide powerful bonuses, so it’s a shame that Warhammer 3 has so few of them. The good news is that you can add a bunch more by simply installing Immortal Landmarks. True to its name, the mod introduces a wide variety of new landmarks to Immortal Empires, many of which are way more interesting than the ones created by the developers.

You’re looking at around 150 new landmarks complete with custom artwork, lore-friendly flavor text, and map icons. Landmark bonuses range from generic +5 morale to infantry units to unique quest battles, dilemmas, powerful items, and more. Some new landmarks are a bit overpowered, but they also cost a ton of money to build, so it all evens out.

6 Improved Item Fusion

Gold quality item equipped on Karl Franz

Total War: Warhammer 3 introduced a system that allows players to obtain new items by fusing together pieces of gear of lower rarity. Improved Item Fusion simply expands that system by enabling it to produce purple and gold quality items. That’s right, you can finally do something with all those extra blue items you have lying around.

The mod takes things one step further by also allowing players to combine banners and followers of the same type. Another interesting feature of Improved Item Fusion is that it makes it possible to steal quest items from other Legendary Lords. On the flip side, your own quest items can be stolen as well.

5 Climate Adaptation

Climate adaptation progress for Northern Grey Mountains

Climate Adaptation gradually eliminates the penalties received by settlements with unpleasant or uninhabitable climates. An unpleasant climate takes 25 turns to become suitable while an uninhabitable climate takes 50 turns. The settlement needs to remain in your possession during that time otherwise the climate will revert back to its original form.

You can speed up the time it takes to adapt to the climate by grabbing the mod Climate Adaptation – Faster Version instead. It works exactly the same as the regular mod but cuts the wait times to 10 and 20 turns, respectively. Regardless of which version you get, make sure to also look up Z’s English Sub-mod. Climate Adaptation will work even without the sub-mod but some of the text won’t be displayed correctly.

4 Loreful Strategic Threat

Culture map in the Old World

Strategic threat is a mechanic designed to prevent factions from becoming too powerful too quickly. Unfortunately, much like a few other things in Warhammer 3, strategic threat is heavily biased against the player and doesn’t always make sense from a lore perspective. For instance, why would your fellow human allies and neighbors declare war on you when you’re conquering Chaos factions half a world away? It doesn’t really make any sense, and this mod is trying to address those types of inconsistencies.

Loreful Strategic Threat creates animosity between factions based on territorial disputes and cultural differences. Factions pertaining to the same race will be more inclined to band together against a common threat, but they can still go to war if they feel that another faction owns territory that should be rightfully theirs. Most factions will also stick to conquering and defending their historical territories and won’t try to expand randomly beyond them just for the sake of it.

3 Minor Settlement Battle Remover

Bay of Blades turned into land battle

Minor settlement battles are a neat idea, but they can get awfully tedious after a while, especially when you’re the attacker. Fortunately, there are several mods out there that remove them either partially or entirely. This one gets rid of them completely while still preserving siege battles and walled minor settlement battles.

Minor Settlement Battle Remover is a very lightweight mod that can be added or removed mid-campaign without any issues. It should also be compatible with pretty much anything except other mods that do something similar, such as Minor Settlements Become Land Battles or Fewer Minor Settlements Battles. The reason why we’re recommending Minor Settlement Battle Remover, in particular, is because it’s updated for Immortal Empires, while other mods aren’t just yet.

2 Radious Total War Mod

New Slaanesh units from Radious Total War Mod

This one can almost be described as a total conversion mod for Warhammer 3. The mod doesn’t completely change the game, but it does make modifications to almost every aspect of it. Radious Total War Mod adds hundreds of new units, almost two dozen new Legendary Lords, new spells, effects, and more.

The mod also overhauls the game’s magic system, economy, AI, and campaign mechanics. Radious Total War Mod is so big that it had to be split into four separate parts. You’ll need to download and install all of them to get it to work. There are also various sub-mods you can add to it if you want to take things one step further.

1 SFO: Grimhammer III

Best Immortal Empires Mods - SFO: Grimhammer III

SFO: Grimhammer is a massive overhaul mod that needs very little introduction at this point. Grimhammer was massively popular even in the days of Total War: Warhammer 2 and is now finally available to play in Immortal Empires as well. The caveat is that SFO: Grimhammer III is still very much in development and currently doesn’t play well with other mods. If you’re looking to give it a shot, make sure to first uninstall all other mods just to be on the safe side.

In case you’re not familiar with the previous incarnation of this mod, SFO: Grimhammer III is quite similar to Radious in that it touches upon pretty much every aspect of the game. However, this one does it in a more subtle and lore-friendly way. You’ll primarily want to get SFO: Grimhammer III for the improved combat and customization options, but you can also expect new abilities, mechanics, unit reskins, and everything else you could want from a big overhaul mod like this.
