As one of the surprise sleeper hits of last year, Bethesda Softworks’ Wolfenstein: The New Order stood out as a critically-acclaimed title that took many spots on Game of the Year and Top 10 lists in 2014, with this year to see the release of a standalone prequel leading up to the events of The New Order.
Publisher Bethesda Softworks and developer MachineGames announced a new title in the series, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, a standalone downloadable title that will act as a prequel to last year’s The New Order and release this May. Set several months prior to the events of The New Order, the new title will show protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz returning to the infamous Castle Wolfenstein to combat ancient magic and prevent the Nazi forces from harnessing it.
Revealed through a new debut trailer, the video of The Old Blood shows plenty of new weapons, enemies, environments and more to keep the experience fresh, but with elements still tying in to the story of The New Order. As a standalone downloadable experience, the game will be available to download and play without a copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, with the title coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $19.99, leaving out PS3 and Xbox 360 as The New Order was released on last year.
Aside from the reveal, Bethesda detailed that more information on the game will be available later this week, with more gameplay to be shown via Twitch streams during this weekend’s PAX East 2015, specifically showing more gameplay footage on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th at 10:30am EST.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 5th, 2015 – in the meantime, you can check out the standalone title’s debut trailer below:
