Biomutant Developers Detail Why the Game Has Taken So Long
Biomutant has had a long road to its May 25 release date; however, when you consider how much the 20-person team has been doing, it makes sense.
Experiment 101’s Biomutant finally has a release date. Players will get to hop into the open-world action game on May 25. However, it was announced way back in 2017. So, why has it taken so long to get the game out? Today, studio head Stefan Ljungqvist sat down with IGN to talk about the reasons why the game is just now releasing. Experiment 101 is a 20-person team made up of ex-Avalanche Studios devs. Once you consider the size of Biomutant, it starts to make sense why this game has taken so long. Sure, the map isn’t that big in the grand scheme of things, but the team has done everything they can to cram it full of stuff to do. However, that also means a ton of bugs for the team needs to squash.
As Ljungqvist says, “there’s only a certain amount of bugs you can physically fix” in a day. To that end, the team has spent the majority of the last year seeking out bugs and getting rid of them. Obviously, no game is going to ship without any bugs. However, doing what you can to get rid of the “truly disruptive” ones is only going to help your game succeed.
They’ve also done a lot to expand the story. Ljungqvist says that the script has blossomed from 80-85,000 words to 250,000. That’s quite the jump. And it’s not just story related. That also means new systems, better tutorials, and more. All told, it sounds like Experiment 101 is using its development time very well as they strive to make the best game possible.
