BioWare Details Commander Shepard's Newest Squadmate: James Vega

January 21, 2012

We’ve known for a while that an Alliance Marine would be one of Shepard’s new teammates in Mass Effect 3. BioWare has finally detailed the marine, James Vega, and revealed some interesting tidbits. The biggest of them is that Mr. She’s All That himself, Freddie Prinze, Jr., is going to be voicing the new character. He will join the ranks of other celebrities in the game like Martin Sheen, Seth Green, Yvonne Strahovski, Keith David and a whole lot more in giving the characters some character.

It’s a bit surprising, but than again, it doesnt sound like he will do a bad job. In spite of his referring to Shepard’s squadmates as “henchmen,” he admits to having played through both games. Check out the GameTrailers video featuring the interview with Prinze, Jr. where he details the character and his own relationship with the Mass Effect series after the jump.

Personally, I think Vega is shaping up to be a fitting addition to the Mass Effect series. He looks like a solid soldier, similar to Adam Baldwin’s Quarian, Kal’Reegar. It seems like he will be able to offer a more rigid character, the character of a solider, and not a Spectre, who isn’t used to doing special forces work where he can’t just follow orders and must make decisions. Though, that said, the above video hints that this wont be the first time he’s had to make on-the-field decisions, so if nothing else, his viewpoint on some of the many issues that always pop up in Mass Effect games will certainly be interesting.
