BioWare Gets a New Sister Studio

By Scott Lipowitz

Electronic Arts has redubbed one of their own studios, EA2D, into BioWare San Francisco.  The studio was responsible for browser and facebook apps such as Mirrors Edge 2D.  The studio most recently worked on an expansion to BioWare’s own Dragon Age universe by developing Dragon Age Legends as a Facebook game.

The studio also developed Dragon Age Journeys and The Fancy Pants Adventures, which was eventually ported to XBLA and PSN, so it is entirely possible that a broader scope may come hand in hand with the renaming.  With the renaming, this makes five different BioWare studios under EAs umbrella; Edmonton, Montreal, Austin, Fairfax Virginia (BioWare Mythic).

The renaming appears to be part of a large restructuring of EA and comes hot on the heels of changes such as the opening of EAs Origin store and the promotion of EA Sports president Peter Moore to EAs Chief Operating Officer.
