Black Ops Takes the Sales Crown

The latest Call of Duty game is out, and like each one before it Black Ops is selling like some kind of thing that sells very well. Here’s the kicker though; the game made $360 Million in one day, a good deal higher than the previous record holder, last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Treyarch’s Black Ops has sold 5.6 million copies in North America, which is much more than Modern Warfare 2‘s 4.7 million during the same period of time.

“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

Well, that was surprising to…nobody. Say what you will about Activision or the Call of Duty series, but they sell well because they’re a very well made game and are a great deal of fun. Is it really a surprise that they have so many studios working on these to get one out every year? Now if you’ll excuse me, I only need a few more points to buy an attachment for my AK-47.
