Today, during a panel at Bitsummit hosted at the Miyako Messe venue in Kyoto, Nicalis presented some brand new gameplay of Studio Saizensen upcoming fighting game Blade Strangers.

The game was played live on stage on Nintendo Switch in docked mode using pro controllers.

The first match you’ll see below pitched Shovel Knight against Emiko from Umihara Kawase, while the second match sees Shovel Knight in action again, but this time against Curly from Cave Story.

Blade Strangers is a crossover fighting game mixing characters from Studio Saizensen games with more from Nicalis titles, and quite a few guests from the indie scene.

I have to say, as notoriously terrible as I am at fighting games, this looks like a ton of fun. Also, the animated intro presented yesterday is really, really badass, and I really liked Code of Princess, so that’s a bonus for me.

Blade Strangers will release this summer for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
