Blind Squirrel Games, the studio that is likely most well-known for its work on the remastered version of Bioshock, has laid off a portion of its staff earlier today.

The layoffs come in the wake of a canceled project that Blind Squirrel Games was currently working on. This project was unannounced so it's uncertain whether or not it was another remaster of a previously released title or if it was an original creation.

A representative from Blind Squirrel Games gave a statement to Gamasutra regarding the layoffs and the number of staff members that it affected. That statement is as follows:

"Unfortunately, due to the unexpected cancellation of an unannounced project, Blind Squirrel Games laid off 13 staff members today – less than 10% of our workforce. The studio continues to work on multiple projects. Our hearts go out to those who were laid off, and while we are working with our partners to find them new homes, we are grateful for any additional help others in the industry may provide."

As always with these unfortunate stories, our best goes out to those affected by the layoffs and we wish you the best of luck moving forward.
