Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Rocks Out to ‘Dammit’ on Ellie’s Guitar in The Last of Us Part II

Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 picks up Ellie's guitar in The Last of Us Part II but ends up forgetting his own lyrics.

It’s been a little over three weeks since The Last of Us Part II released and it’s most certainly a game that just keeps on giving. Whether you’re into the mass of fan art that we’ve seen produced by countless, talented artists or you’ve been keeping an eye out for some new songs to learn on Ellie’s guitar, The Last of Us Part II won’t dip off of the gaming radar anytime soon. Due to COVID-19, many people have found themselves at home and Mark Hoppus from alternative rock band Blink-182 is no different. Finding ways to pass the time, Mark has taken up live streaming to Twitch as a way to stay in touch with his fans while also playing video games.

The mini-game in a certain area of The Last of Us Part II allows players to interact with the DualShock 4’s touchpad for strumming while Ellie’s chords are played through button prompts on a radial wheel and even capo placement is implemented to allow for a super realistic guitar playing experience. Of course, it’s of no surprise that creative players have taken this opportunity to cover some of the world’s best guitar tunes and to share them online. Previously, Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus has played games like the original The Last of Us and Animal Crossing but this time, picking up Ellie’s guitar for the bassist is a hard thing to turn down.

As Mark strums out the chords to his 1997 song ‘Dammit’, he seems to have a bit of bother remembering the words. Wait, how do the lyrics go?” he laughs. “What’s the next line?! Oh yeah, that’s right: ‘The season is calling, your pictures are falling down.’” A few hardcore fans in this Twitch chat were screaming out the lines to remind him. It’s ok, Mark – it’s certainly been a rough year for all of us! You can catch the video below and also have a little sing-along.

Dammit serves as the third track off Blink-182’s sophomore studio album Dude Ranch and is one of their most successful songs to date. As well as gaming on Twitch, Mark has been working on new music in lockdown, with bandmate Travis Barker recently revealing that a Blink-182 song called ‘Quarantine’ is coming.

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has more information on whether The Last of Us Part II would have a DLC like The Last of Us: Left Behind. During a spoilercast with Kinda Funny GamesNeil stated that currently there are “no plans” to release DLC for Part II. But who knows, maybe we will see a DLC drop sometime into the future. The Last of Us Part 2 is available now exclusively on PS4 (and soon to be PS5). The game was one of DualShockers’ favorites of 2020; make sure to check out the official DualShockers (generally spoiler-free) review. Also, feel free to grab the game physically on Amazon to help support the site.
