Blizzard has addressed a major bug in the competitive ranking system of Overwatch 2 that has had a massive impact over the last few weeks, causing players to be stuck in the lowest skill tier in the game. Recent patch notes reveal that the issue blocked players from ranking up by not recognizing their progression, which had rendered their efforts to pass the rank useless. The bug, which has been addressed weeks after the launch, has now been fixed, but its effects have potentially caused hundreds of players to uninstall the game.

The competitive ranking system of Overwatch 2 has been criticized due to its indifference toward the players' efforts in competitive matches. Based on the top posts of the game's subreddit, a great majority of players who got stuck in "the Elo hell," decided to stop playing Overwatch 2. Some players shared that they were unable to gain progress in the ranking system even after winning five or six consecutive matches. "After I had won 7 matches and lost 1, I was placed in Bronze 5. Out of 17 matches with Mei, I won 12 and lost 5. I received a 70% win rate with her, and a 49% weapon accuracy. Guess what? I'm still Bronze 5," Aokighara wrote on the official forums.

It has only now been revealed that the issue was not related to the player's actual skill level, occurring instead due to a bug in the game's competitive ranking system. Blizzard, on the other hand, hadn't made a warning about the rank-related bug before sharing the patch notes with the community. And it appears that the silence on the topic has stirred the pot more than the fact that the game made its debut with this issue present. A great number of players have expressed their frustrations both on the Overwatch 2 subreddit and the forums about the lack of an announcement. These players believe that the feeling of discouragement is reinforced even more, as the issue is devoid of a warning, and it occurs in the lowest skill tier in the game.

Now that bug is out of the way, Overwatch 2 players can hopefully proceed with their competitive matches and start ranking up by hitting good scores. That being said, it is important to note that those who are stuck in Bronze 5 will have to start the struggle from the beginning. That means that there will be no boosts even after the issue has been fixed, which will probably be another controversial topic revolving around Blizzard's troubled competitive shooter in the coming days. November has sure been a rocky month for the game with Mei getting disabled and added back, along with major changes implemented for five characters.
