It has been over a year since the passing of Blizzard senior artist Kevin Kanai Griffith, yet Blizzard continues to memorialize and tribute him throughout their games. Previously, this included a new character in World of Warcraft carrying his namesake as well as the inclusion of a substantial feature addition to Diablo III -- the Kanai Cube.

With that said, yesterday diligent Diablo III gamers noted a new event at the Immortal Throne. Previously, visiting the Immortal Throne at the Ruins of Sescheron would lead to a message saying "The time is not right." That "time" seems to be March, because players can approach the throne, reignite Kanai's spirit, and tag-team with him in a modified Cow Level titled "Kanai's Stomping Grounds."

While there was a mix of confusion about why this level was added and what it means,  a Blizzard community manager cleared it up on the Battle.net forums:

The Kanai event has actually been present since Patch 2.4.0 launched, but is only available during March - the real world birth month of Kevin Kanai Griffith, the artist for whom Kanai's Cube (and King Kanai) is named.

For those of you who may not know, Kevin was a talented and dedicated member of the Diablo III development team who passed away in October of 2014 from a rare form of cancer. If you'd like to read more about Kevin, we included a short biography of his contributions to Diablo (and Blizzard as a whole) in the Kanai's Cube preview.

This event is a chance for folks to get to adventure with Kanai one more time. We hope you enjoy the opportunity as much as we do.
