Blizzard has confirmed, via a blog post on its website, that Dan Hay, former director and producer of the Far Cry series, is set to join the growing team that's working on the studio's yet-unnamed survival game.

Back in January of this year, Blizzard confirmed its plan to create a new gaming franchise for console and PC within the survival game genre. Next to nothing was said about it, except that it will be a "place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived," a pretty catch-all description that doesn't explain anything specific about the gameplay or world. It did show the concept art seen below, however.

That's essentially still the case, but this new update blog post did give us some info about the team's pedigree, revealing its general manager to be Dan Hay. Hay worked at Ubisoft for over 10 years, exclusively on the widely popular Far Cry series. He started as a producer in 2011 for Far Cry 3, a game that many fans still consider to be the franchise's crowning achievement. Throughout the years, he worked as both producer and director across the following Far Cry games, leaving the company in 2021 after the release of Far Cry 6.

Far Cry is a first-person open-world shooter series that first began with the 2004 Crytek-developed title of the same name. The title was published by Ubisoft, which went on to take the series internally, both developing and publishing all following projects. Though Far Cry is far from a survival game series, it can have vaguely related elements like resource gathering, open environments, and battles with wildlife. Far Cry Primal, which Hay produced, also had weapon crafting.

This survival game will be Blizzard's first new IP since Overwatch. Though Blizzard has had many controversial releases, like Diablo Immortal, and Warcraft III: Reforged, no one can deny that nearly all its IPs have garnered tremendous success. So, this is likely one to watch, particularly if you're a survival game fan.

The blog post also confirmed that the survival game team doubled in size this year, and Blizzard is "looking to grow it even more in the new year." It's unknown when we'll learn something tangible about the game, or when we'll see it in action, but the post coincidentally also confirmed that BlizzCon would be returning in 2023, which is where Blizzard often makes its biggest announcements.
