The highly-anticipated Kickstarter game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night received a rather major new update today, and unfortunately most of it is bad news.

Bloodstained's producer Koji Igarashi announced via a new Kickstarter update for the game that it has now been officially pushed into 2019. Iga stated that the reason for this delay is due to feedback they received after releasing the beta to Kickstarter backers where they realized that they now need to increase the game's quality level, which will take more time than originally anticipated.

The second major announcement is that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will now no longer launch on PlayStation Vita. Iga said that the reason for this cancellation is, "largely due to Sony’s plans to discontinue the Vita console, ending production of physical copies and stopping certain online store support features." This isn't a surprising revelation but it's one that still is a shame, nonetheless. My thoughts are with our former writer, Azario Lopez, during this trying time.

If you backed the game on Kickstarter and chose Vita as your platform, you can now select a new platform to receive the game upon when it launches or you can get your money back. Expect an email from Fangamer soon to help you through this process.

Iga ended the post by saying that he apologizes for the disappointment with both of these pieces of news and assured fans that he and the team are working harder than ever before to deliver them the game they want. Delays like this are never fun but if the finished product reflects what it is that both myself and many others wanted out of Iga's return to this genre, then I'll be happy in the end.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is now scheduled to launch on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Switch when it releases in 2019.
