Blue Protocol Gameplay, Changes from Closed Alpha to Beta Explained

Take a look at how Blue Protocol's city will look like in the upcoming Closed Beta Test with some new gameplay.

February 18, 2020

Bandai Namco held on February 13 the first stream for PC online RPG Blue Protocol, revealing new details on the upcoming Closed Beta Test, along with new gameplay.

On the stream, the staff explained the Closed Beta’s objectives are to stress test Blue Protocol‘s servers, check how much time will be needed for players to fully clear the content they included in the Closed Beta, and gather more feedback. This will allow the development team to create satisfying content for the game’s launch.

We also got to see a lot of new gameplay. The staff stressed out this is still in-development and anything is subject to change. The game is still being debugged as well.

First, we got to see some character creation gameplay:

Compared to the Closed Alpha, the Closed Beta will include more body types, hairstyles, and overall more customization options. Blue Protocol‘s character creation is pretty complete and is especially interesting because each outfit you can use is divided into parts. Meaning you can mix multiple outfits’ parts together.

Next, we got to see more Blue Protocol gameplay, with the game’s opening cutscene, the first battle, and then they switched to another character to show some town exploration gameplay:

The city’s got a coliseum, a beach, some facilities to upgrade your character and equipment, and even a bar. You’ve got some specific character motions you can do too, with some motions being exclusive to whether your character is sitting or in another position.

We also heard about the Memory Stand system. Energy called Liquid Memory accumulates at certain parts of the city, and finding these spots gives you some buffs. That system will be added starting the Closed Beta. Other quality-of-life additions will include being able to move the camera while using autorun and being able to remove the cursor target from the screen.

One of the most interesting points is how Blue Protocol‘s main story has the player character voiced. This is quite rare in Japanese online RPGs. It’s still early to tell if the player character actually plays an active role or not though.

Blue Protocol was first announced in June 2019. The game was currently only announced in Japan and on PC. However, Bandai Namco is currently hiring for an English localization director for Blue Protocol, meaning an English version of the game will be announced at some point. The Closed Beta Test’s applications are open on the official site, and they necessitate a Bandai Namco ID, you can probably do it with google translate. We might make a guide if time permits too.

The next stream will happen on February 20, at 20:00 JST. The youtube page is here. We’ll hear more about new fields, new dungeons, new class-specific skills, and Raid Boss battles, among other things. We’ve got some preview screenshots too:
