Borderlands 2 Lifts Artist's Work Without Permission

Unfortunate news today on twitter as one user informed Resistance 3 artist Olly Moss that the inside cover of Borderlands 2 may have done a little more than look to his art for inspiration. A side-by-side picture of the cover and Moss’s poster ofEmpire Strikes Back shows that “appropriation” would be euphemism, the cover lifts specific elements from Moss’s work. Moss went on to say that he was disappointed by the news, but not upset.

Gearbox Software CEO and President, Randy Pitchford, went to twitter to state that this type of action will not be overlooked. “You’re amazing. Inspiration is part of art and you’ve inspired us. But the bit that was lifted is uncool, so… consequences.” He went on to say “Check your e-mail. We should be working together to do it right and legit. ” Hopefully this turns out well for both parties involved, but I would not want to be the cover artist right now.
